Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Public Works Department and Tourism PA Mohammed Riyas blamed Congress for the defeat of CPM-Congress alliance in Tripura election. Congress had to strive for bringing back the voters and MLAs who left the party recently. However, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi abstained from even visiting Tripura prior to the elections. The minister’s remarks came up while discussions during the financial business in the assembly was progressing.

The Congress activists are gradually drifting towards BJP and the same has been reflected in Tripura, said the minister. Riyas accused Congress of getting deflected from anti-BJP campaigns.

“By refraining from protesting against the price hike of cooking gas, Congress has turned out to be a safety valve of BJP. The party remained silent when Amit Shah ridiculed the people of Kerala during a speech in Karnataka,” said Riyas.

“There is no use in conducting a plenary session to challenge BJP. Congress has to rectify its soft hindutva policy,” the minister added.
