Minister counts 2200 potholes on AC road; Exe. engineer suspended
Alappuzha: PWD minister G. Sudhakaran suspended an executive engineer for failure in maintenance of Changanassery KSTP Road. The minister suspended executive engineer S. R. Anithakumari on Friday after he spotted about 2200 potholes on the road.
The minister happened to notice numerous potholes on the Alappuzha-Changanessery road while he was going to inaugurate Chengannur MLA’s local area development office on Friday between 12 pm and 1 pm. He counted upto 2200 potholes on the road and decided to take action immediately.
The road was re-tarred during the tenure of previous UDF government. Severe corruption had taken place during this work, the minister said. The road was maintained in 2016 and 2017 with the direct order from the minister. However, the officials did not proceed with maintenance works despite the minister’s frequent directions this month.
The executive engineer did not attend the calls from the minister’s office asking to maintain the road. The minister opined that the work of the road is the leftover of the corruption led by previous government.
Apart from suspending Anithakumari, the minister has also sought explanation from the superintending engineer, assistant executive engineer and assistant engineer who made lapses in maintenance of the road. He also informed that the Deputy Chief Engineer of Vigilance has been entrusted with the investigation into the corruption in the work of AC road.
