Minimum annual income for adopting children set at Rs 3 lakh
Kollam: The Social Justice Department has issued an order mentioning the minimum annual income of the couple who plans to adopt a child. The minimum income has been set at Rs 3 lakh per annum. The couple also need to prove their minimum income at the time of applying for adoption.
The adoption laws direct that the couple who adopt the child should be physically fit, economically stable and mentally normal. However, the minimum income was not determined.
At present, the financial condition of those who apply for adoption is decided by the officials of Social Justice Department after visiting the applicant's house.
If the annual income is meagre, the applicants will be disqualified. This delays the adoption process. With this, the Director of Women and Child Development had given a letter to the government requesting the minimum income limit at the time of application itself.
