Milma withdraws price hike of Rich milk; Smart packet will cost Rs 25

Thiruvananthapuram: Milma has withdrawn its decision to increase the price of Milma Rich packet (green cover). Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, J Chinchu Rani, announced that the hike on the price of Milma Smart (yellow cover) will sustain.

Milma had announced that the price hike of Rs 2 per litre for the two packets will be effective from Wednesday onwards.

Last December, the price of Milma Rich was increased by Rs.6. Price of Milma Smart was raised by Rs 4 last time.

The minister has clarified that Milma should have informed the government of its decision to increase milk prices. Although Milma has the authority to fix prices, it should have taken the government's approval. The responsibility to notify the government of any changes in prices lies with Milma, she said. There were lapses on the side of the company, she added.

Milma Rich will cost Rs 29 for half litre packet. The price of Milma Smart will be Rs 25 per half litre.
