Milma mulls collection of milk covers through schools: Talks soon
Kottayam: The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation or Milma will join hands with educational institutions for plastic cover disposal. Children can bring to schools cleaned milk covers from their houses which will be handed over to Clean Kerala Mission project through Kudumbashree. Chairman P A Balan informed that Milma will hold immediate talks with educational institutions on this as the government had planned to ban plastics strictly from January 1 onwards.
Milma manufactures around 25 lakh covers for milk distribution to houses. The cover collection will be undertaken in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Kannur and Alappuzha districts in the first phase. Talks with Clean Kerala company officials were held to know how covers from houses could be collected via Kudumbashree or from other units. Milma has to spend Rs 2 crore per month for plastic disposal.
Price of cattle feed may go up
Milma incurs a loss of Rs 150 per sack through its sale of cattle feed. A sack of cattle feed is sold at Rs 1075. Milma plans to increase the price of cattle feed.
