Thiruvananthapuram: The proposed hike in milk price, recommended in the interim order of the expert panel appointed by Milma, will come into effect from Thursday. An increase of Rs 6 per litre will be in force for all categories of milk supplied via Milma.

The price of toned milk (in blue colour sachet), which is high in demand, will touch Rs 52 per litre in MIlma outlets. The earlier price was Rs 46.

From a litre, the dairy farmers are expected to receive nearly Rs 5.03 extra amount compared to their current revenue. The farmer will obtain Rs 38.40 to Rs 43.50 from a litre according to the quality of the milk. The cost of butter, ghee and ‘kattimoru’ will also rise.

The revised rate will be printed in the Milma covers from December 1, informed Thiruvananthapuram zone union managing director DS Konda.
