Thiruvananthapuram: With milk shortage intensifying in the state, the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has decided to bring 20,000 litres of condensed milk from Maharashtra on a daily basis. Milk will be purchased at a rate of Rs 43 per litre for three months. Condensed milk will start arriving from Thursday onwards.

Milma is buying condensed milk, which is in concentrated form, in order to bring more quantity of milk. When this condensed milk is processed in Milma dairy, about 50,000 litres of milk will be available.

Milma was compelled to buy milk from Maharashtra as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also face milk shortage. The dairy farmers are suffering production loss as the summer intensified. So, Milma board meeting has decided to request the government to provide Rs 3 per litre as incentive to help them.
