Birders have spotted migratory bird sedge warbler in Kaipad region of Kannur.

The bird was spotted by birdwatcher Manoj Karingamadathil and Payyannur college research scholar Sachin Chandran.

Many experts in the field opined that this has been the first spotting of the bird in the state.

It was nearly four decades ago that sedge warbler was spotted in Ladakh.

The bird is known for its crossing of the Sahara to reach breeding grounds in Europe and some parts of Asia.
