AN Shamseer with family
Kannur: AN Shamseer shared his belief to perform his duties as Speaker by gaining the trust of all the members of the Assembly. The election to the post of the Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker will be held on Monday at 10 am.
“In all these years, I have been a midfielder in the Assembly and soon I will take charge as the referee. A referee has to be impartial. I am confident that I can perform well in this new role too. As a Speaker, equal consideration would be given to both governing and Opposition parties,” said Shamseer to Mathrubhumi.
“As a senior member of CPM, I had to defend the attacks and allegations of the Opposition in the Assembly. However, the Speaker’s duties will be performed by gaining the confidence of everyone,” he added.
Shamseer was a member of the Assembly chaired by P Sreeramakrishnan and MB Rajesh. Shamseer opined that both of them had executed their responsibilities well during their term as Kerala Assembly Speaker.
Shamseer revealed his wish to expand the opportunities for higher education to the Assembly members and to convert the ordinances to Acts, without much delay.
He shared his despair at the condition of ailing CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, when he would assume the office of Speaker.
AN Shamseer was born in a family of Communists as the son of Komoth Usman and Zareena. Usman, who was a merchant navy officer passed away a year ago.
Shamseer is a post-graduate in Anthropology and Law.
