Microfinance scam: Case booked against Vellappally, Thushar
Chengannur: Chengannur police registered a case against SNDP yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan and his son SNDP yogam vice-president Thushar Vellappally in connection with the alleged microfinance scam. Both were booked in the case as directed by the court here.
Vellappally Natesan was booked as the first accused in the case. Police has listed eight accused in the case.
SNDP Yogam protection committee union secretary K Sudarshan has lodged complaint on the scam.
SNDP yogam director board member Ratheesh Kannamparambil, Chengannur union chairman Anil P Sreerangam, microfinance coordinator KK Mahesan, Chengannur union convenor Sunil Valliyil, former committee members Anu C Senan and K Santhosh are the other accused.
The accused in the case have hatched a conspiracy to borrow loan from various banks after setting up dupe self-financing firms, says the FIR.
It is reported that they have taken money from the group members by convincing them that the loan amount will be paid through SNDP. They collected Rs 1.54 crore from the people and possessed it in their name. The accused also destroyed the documents of the transactions of microfinance group.
Meanwhile, Vellappally Natesan responded that the case has been registered against him for political gain.
“It is a fake complaint moved to defame SNDP. Police have already probed the complaint and dismissed it as fake,” he said.
He noted that SNDP yogam has taken action against the people involved in microfinance scam. Police is investigating the case.
He alleged that the case is part of the conspiracy to subvert election campaign of BDJS for Chengannur by-polls. He declared that he will move the high court to prove his innocence.
