Thiruvananthapuram: The construction works of NH 66, covering the stretch between Kasaragod’s Thalappady and Thiruvananthapuram's Kaliyakkavilai, is progressing at snails’s pace, suggests a Right to Information (RTI) reply.
Two years on the contract, most companies involved in the work have only completed 15 per cent of works, according to the information furnished by National Highways Authority of India officials in response to RTI query on construction works.
Covid-19 pandemic, repeated floods and quarry permit issues have been cited as reasons for the delay.
The stretch is of 692.03 km and cost estimated for construction is Rs 31,726.794 crore.
As on August 31, 2022, Rs 3,804.24 crore (12 per cent of the cost estimated) has been disbursed based on the work completed.

Works are about to be completed on the stretches: Mukkola-Kaliyakkavilai, Kazhakootam-Technopark flyover, Pallikara flyover, Paloli-Mooradu bridges and Thalassery-Mahe bypass.
