Kollam: Minister Mercykutty Amma is trying to influence the voters with a misleading statement about EMCC director and Independent candidate in Kundara Shiju Varghese, alleged UDF candidate in Kundara P C Vishnunath. The minister should not have made such statement while holding a responsible post, Vishnunath said.
The police should investigate if Independent candidate Shiju Varghese’s car was set on fire by somebody or he arranged somebody to burn it. But before a probe was held, the minister made a statement and it is violation of the poll code, Vishnunath alleged.
Minister Mercykutty Amma had told the media that Shiju Varghese conspired to sabotage the election and misled the public by pretending he was attacked by rivals.
The minister said that Shiju Varghese brought petrol and tried to burn the car. When an inspection was carried out later, petrol bottle was found from his car and he was taken into police custody.
However, the police later made it clear that Shiju Varghese is the complainant and no petrol was found from his vehicle.
