Alappuzha: A complaint was lodged with police accusing hospital staff of brutally beating a mentally challenged woman in Nooranad here on Tuesday. Relatives of a Karunagappally native filed a complaint against KCM Hospital in Nooranad after finding bruise marks all over her body.

The 39-year-old woman has been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the last few days. On February 27, the doctors contacted the family and informed them that she was not cooperating with the treatment. The family alleged they were initially restricted from meeting her.

The family found bruise marks all over her body when the hospital authorities finally let them meet her.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities maintained that staff nurses only retaliated when she tried to attack them and refused to take medicines.

The woman is currently undergoing treatment at Karunagappally Taluk hospital.
