Madhunan near his auto ' Achyutham'

Kozhikode: Even the Coronavirus would bow before the compassionate heart of M Madhunan, an autorickshaw driver in Kozhikode. Since the beginning of Covid spread, Madhunan has been taking service for Covid positive patients, those who are going for test and the patients discharged from hospital.

As soon as people call him, Madhunan arrives wearing a PPE kit within a few minutes. He does not charge any money from the poor patients and elderly people. Also he collects only the amount for fuel from others too. At least 8-10 patients are taken to hospitals every day.

When the second wave of Covid started, Madhunan vowed to take only hospital trips. All this started from previous lockdown. People with Covid symptoms often fail to get any vehicle for going to hospitals. Then Madhunan will come to their rescue.

Various political parties had arranged PPE kits for helping the Covid positive people cast vote during election. Madhunan kept some of the kits remaining in their collection for transporting Covid patients.

Madhunan's family including his wife Seena and children Manav and Malavika also support him. Earlier, he was working in an automobile showroom. He has been an auto driver since 2007. When he does not have hosptial trips, he washes and sanitizes the auto and carries goods for community kitchen.

The 45-year-old hailing from Nadakkavu is also a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) in the area. He not only transports the patients but also help them get into wheelchair or stretcher. As he takes all precautions, Madhunan was never infected with Covid.
