Kannur: People are flocking to Rich Mahal in Koothuparamba’s Karayamthodi to have tea and snacks from Pathootty, the maid at this house. Interestingly, this housemaid is a robot. Muhammad Shiyad, a Plus One computer science student at Vengad EK Nayanar Memorial Govt. HSS developed this robot.
Now, Pathootty has turned a star at his house and village. Shiyad made the robot as part of his project. But later, he converted it as a helper for his mother Zareena.
Plastic stool, aluminium sheet, female dummy and serving plate were used for making this robot’s structure. A mobile application developed through MIT app, Atmega microcontroller and IR ultrasonic censor are controlling the operation of this robot.
This robot will function in automatic as well as manual mode.
Shiyad was assisted by his classmate Arjun in this unique project. His mother Zareena turned stylist for Pathootty by choosing perfect outfits.
“ Only Rs 10,000 was spent for developing this robot. When it is set in automatic mode, it will walk to the dining hall from the kitchen without anyone’s help. We give commands to the robot through the mobile app. If we are taking it to a place where proper paths are not found, we have to set the robot in manual mode. ‘Pathootty’ can easily carry 5 to 6 kg,” Shiyad explained.
“ I named it Pathootty as it moves after identifying the specially designed path,” he added.
Shiyad is the son of Pappinisseri Hidayath Higher Secondary school principal CK Abdu Rahman. He has a brother named Shiyas.
