Kochi: A voice clip, being circulated in the name of an employee at Kalamassery Government Medical College claimed that the death of a COVID-19 patient was not due to the virus infection. As per the voice clip, the patient died as the ventilator tube was misplaced.
The voice clip is being circulated in the name of a nursing officer at the medical college named Jalaja Devi. However, its authenticity needs to be proved.
Kalamassery Medical College is the COVID care centre in Ernakulam district. The other day, a Fort Kochi native, who tested COVID positive, was admitted here. He died while undergoing treatment.
Following his death, the voice clip in the name of the nursing officer was widely circulated on social media. It is reported that the patient died in the ICU when he started improving and was fit to be shifted to the ward.
In the voice clip, the hospital staff was found confessing to someone that the patient died as the ventilator tube was disconnected. The nursing officer also expressed relief over escaping from the charges as nobody noticed the ventilator tube.
The voice clip also confirmed that similar incidents took place earlier also.
Hospital staff including doctors were aware of the fact that the COVID patient had died due to the failure in ventilator tubing connection. But they managed to conceal the fact, the voice clip revealed.
As the voice clip came into light, the relatives of the deceased are planning to file a complaint alleging medical negligence against the hospital.
Meanwhile, the hospital authority has taken a stance that they have no idea about the voice clip as the nursing officer is not obliged to comment on the treatment of COVID patients.
