No headway in Kozhikode medical negligence case; Complainant may move legally

Harshina

Kozhikode: Harshina, the complainant in the incident where a pair of scissors got stuck in her stomach during surgery, is preparing to take the legal route against the health department. Harshina’s decision comes as there has been no progress in the investigation into the alleged lapses on the part of doctors of Kozhikode medical college, even after a month since health minister Veena George announced a new probe.

The pair of scissors left inside Harshina’s stomach during a caesarean in 2017 was taken out in September 2022. The health department started an investigation into the matter when it came out.

A three-member team was appointed to investigate the matter and they recorded detailed statements and collected evidence. But the investigation report did not come out.

Harshina returned to the Kozhikode medical college for treatment in December 2022, after developing more health issues. She had informed the hospital authorities that she would not leave the premises until appropriate action was taken in the case. Following this, the health department intervened once again.

The health minister told Harshina that there was no clarity in the first investigation and assured her that a scientific probe would be conducted.

However, Harshina claims that she has not even received one phone call regarding the matter after this. Harshina is planning to file a complaint with the Pantheerankavu police.
