Journalists manhandled amid brawl between UDF-LDF councillors in Kozhikode Corporation

Kozhikode: Journalists were caught in the middle of a brawl between UDF and LDF councillors of Kozhikode Corporation over the scam involving Punjab National Bank. Earlier on Saturday, the corporation suspended 15 UDF councillors for creating a ruckus during the council meeting. Some LDF councillors attacked the media personnel when they were covering the response of the UDF councillors who were staging a protest.

Mathrubhumi News Cameraman Jithesh, Kerala Vision Cameraman Waseem Ahamed and Riyas and a news reporter Riyas were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, six individuals were injured in a clash between UDF and LDF members. The injured were later shifted to Kozhikode Beach Hospital.

A few UDF leaders visited the UDF councillors who were suspended for protesting during a council meeting on Saturday. Following this, the UDF leaders addressed the media. Irked by this, some LDF activists rushed to the scene and quarrelled with the UDF members for addressing the media on Corporation premises.

Following this, a brawl broke out between the two groups and it ended up in an attack on the journalists. The LDF members also threatened that they will break the hands of the media personnel if they dare to capture the visuals.

Later, the police arrived at the scene and took the situation under control.
