New Delhi: The Kerala government has approached the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing on the petition filed against the High Court order which favoured fee hike for MBBS courses in private medical colleges.
In the letter to the apex court, Kerala pointed out that the medical college admission in the state has come to a standstill following the HC order.
Meanwhile, some students, who were listed in the rank list, also approached the SC against the order of Kerala High Court.
State government standing counsel G Prakash has forwarded the letter to Supreme Court registrar requesting to urgently start hearing into the petition.
The letter explained the crisis faced in the counselling of MBBS admission in Kerala.
The state government had submitted a petition against the High Court order on fee hike in last week.
In an interim order, HC had clarified that the as the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 came into force, the commission holds the right to fix fees in medical colleges. But the commission is not established yet.
Pointing out this fact, the state government noted that the colleges should collect the fee fixed by the state fee regulatory committee which was formed as per SC order.
Amidst this, some students have approached the Supreme Court alleging that some self-financing medical colleges are collecting fee double than the amount fixed by the state fee regulatory committee. The students also demanded a stay on the HC order urgently.
Meanwhile, the college managements have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding to hear their argument before pronouncing order on government’s plea against the interim order.
Adv. Haris Beeran and Adv. Sulfikar Ali have submitted the writ petition for KMCT Medical College and Karuna Medical College respectively.
