Kochi: A sculptor from Thrissur has claimed that the self-styled antique dealer Monson Mavunkal is indebted to him Rs. 70 lakh for the sculptures he made for him.

The sculptor told Mathrubhumi News that he was unaware of the fact that Monson is a fraudster.

He got in touch with Monson through a relative in the US. They initially spoke online in December 2018. Upon receiving orders, he made 6 sculptures for Monson on the condition of full payment within one and a half months.

When the sculptor was under treatment due to a heart attack, Rs. 7 lakh was paid. The remaining Rs. 70 lakh is yet to be paid.

Different sized sculptures of Saint Mary, Lord Shiva and several more were made on wood. Monson painted them over after buying it, he said.
