Mattupetty dam opened; water level rising in Mullaperiyar
Kumily: As rains intensified in the catchment areas, one shutter of Mattupetty dam was raised. The shutter was raised to 30 cm at 9 am on Tuesday as the water level reached 1599.2 feet. 12.5 cumecs water was released through the shutter. Alert has been issued in Lower Periyar, Kallarkutty, Muthirappuzha and Munnar regions.
Water level in Idukki dam was at 2396.88 feet at 10 am on Tuesday. Presently, three of its shutters are opened to 1.5 metre. The water flowing to Periyar has reduced to 4.5 lakh liter. Water level in Mullaperiyar dam reached 136 feet. Tamil Nadu has issued an alert to Kerala regarding the water level in the dam.
Water level in Idamalayar dam is at 168.71 metre and all of its four shutters are raised to one metre. Shutters of Banasura Sagar dam has been raised to 180 cm. A high alert has been issued in the nearby places. Kakki dam shutters were lowered from 45 cm to 30 cm.
