Kollam: Two journalists of Mathrubhumi daily were attacked by a gang of goons in Kollam on Wednesday. The Kollam East Police have arrested three people in connection with the incident.

Mathrubhumi staff reporter Anil Mukunneri and staff photographer Sudheer Mohan, who were injured in the attack, have been admitted to the district hospital. The incident took place around 1 pm near the cemetery in Polayathodu, Kollam.

The accused have been identified as Althaf (32), his relative Zeidali (25) and Raja, a native of Tirunelveli. Reportedly, Althaf and others, who had weapons with them, followed Anil and Sudheer on bikes. Soon after, Anil informed the matter to the circle inspector at Kollam East station.

Following this, the goons attacked the journalists, thrashed them on their head and chest. Police arrived at the spot and took Althaf into custody and registered a case.

Mathrubhumi Managing Editor PV Chandran condemned the attack and demanded the government to bring the assailants to justice. Mathrubhumi journalists union also demanded the arrest of all involved in the attack.
