Mathrubhumi Director Dr TK Jayaraj passes away
Kozhikode: Dr T K Jayaraj, a renowned general surgeon, Managing Director and Chief Surgeon of PVS Hospital Kozhikode and Director of Mathrubhumi, passed away here on Thursday. He was 82. He was a resident of Kalpaka at Thali in Kozhikode. Since 2006, he had been the director of Mathrubhumi.
He began his career as an assistant surgeon in Kerala government service after pursuing MBBS from Kozhikode Medical College. He also secured MS, FICS and FIMSA graduations. From 1965 to 1974, he worked in various government hospitals as assistant surgeon.
He was at the forefront, ever since the PVS Hospital was formed in 1976. He was an integral part of the hospital throughout as he led its transformation into a multispecialty health care centre.
The various research papers he presented in national and international level conferences stand testimony to his medical genius. Even his research works were published in noted international journals a number of times.
Born on July 7 in 1938 to Edamuttam Thandayam Parambil Kunjikrishnan and Karthyayani, he owns a reputed track record. His father was a school teacher at Valappad Malabar District Board in Thrissur.
He also served as the administrative member, Kerala chapter president and secretary of Association of Surgeons of India, Kozhikode branch secretary of Indian Medical Association, president of Calicut Urology Club, director board member and vice-president of Sreenarayana Education Society, working committee member of Sreekanteshwara temple, president of Rotary Club of Calicut East and president of District Volleyball Association.
He is survived by his wife Kumari Jayaraj, daughter of noted industrialist and founder of KTC, later PV Swamy and children Dr. Jaycy Baiju (heart and vascular care, Florida, US); Dr. Deepa Sunil (PVS Hospital Kozhikode); Dr.Jay Kish Jayaraj (Director of PVS Hospital); and Dr. Deeshma Rajesh (PVS Hospital).
Dr. Pradeep Baiju (heart and vascular care, Florida, US); Dr. Sunil Rahulan (Dubai); and Dr. Rajesh Subhash (PVS Hospital) are his sons-in-law and Dr. Arya Jay Kish (PVS Hospital) is his daughter-in-law.
Savithry (Faroke); Sathy (Ayyanthole); Dr.TK Raveendran (late) (Calicut University former vice chancellor); Gangadharan (retired soldier); Balakrishnan (retried principal Govt. College Chalakkudy); Surendran (Ret. IRS), Sarojini and Saraswathy are his siblings.
Mathrubhumi Chairman and Managing Editor PV Chandran and film director and producer PV Gangadharan are his brothers-in-law.
