Mathrubhumi bags 2 awards in International Newspaper Design Competition

Kozhikode: Mathrubhumi Daily bagged gold and a bronze medal in the 5th International Newspaper Design Competition conducted by Asia’s first newspaper design website www.newspaperdesign.in.

Mathrubhumi bagged gold for their page design depicting the World Cup victory of Argentina and Messi (Best of Messi pages).

"Before Qatar, Argentina hadn’t won the World Cup in 40 years. Now Messi is finally adding the cup to his collection of hardware. The kissing the trophy image says it all. And, as Charles (a jury) says, when you get a great image, get the hell out of the way," a jury member said. Jury praised the effort taken by Mathrubhumi to include a full-sized image of Messi on the front page.

The newspaper, which recently celebrated its centenary celebration, also won Bronze (Best of Pele page) for the page design celebrating and honouring the life of Brazilian great Pele.

"This page from Mathrubhumi of Kerala, India, features an enormous photo of Pelé. The red background makes the image pop off the page," the jury remarked.
