Mass retirement in BSNL: Retirees can’t take up jobs for next two years
The Group A employees of BSNL who retires on Friday under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme will face a ban on taking up other salaried jobs for next two years. After one year they have to furnish a letter to the BSNL management stating that they are not engaged in any other job.
A large number of farewell functions were held all across India on Thursday and Friday. The company provided a parting gift to the employees retiring. Earlier Rs 3000 was also given to the retiring employees, but this tradition was done away with before the mass retirement. Gifting them one-year valid recharge coupons worth Rs 1699 is under consideration.
Two months’ salary pending
The retired employees have not obtained salaries for the past two months. Those in service also haven’t obtained salary. It is reported that salaries will be disbursed by February first week. This would depend on obtaining the bank loan.
Crucial days ahead
Much crucial and quick steps are expected of the central government. It had claimed the large number of employees was the reason for financial crisis in BSNL. The VRS for employees were announced as part of revival package. The 4G spectrum announced in revival package has not yet approved. If the efforts for Rs 3000 crore bank loan is not started this month, it would be difficult for further functioning. Also the debenture of Rs 16000 crore has not materialised.
