Mass copying in MBBS exam; Results of 5 colleges withheld
Thiruvananthapuram: Due to mass copying in the final year MBBS exam, Kerala University of Health Sciences has blocked the exam results of 5 medical colleges. The results of Alappuzha and Ernakulam government medical colleges, Thiruvananthapuram SUT, Kollam Azeezia and Perinthalmanna MES have been withheld.
The details of 5 suspected students have been handed over to the respective colleges. The university has started with the necessary procedures to disqualify the respective students. The governing council, set to meet on Friday, will take a final decision on the matter. More students are suspected to be involved in the scam.
The complaint was filed by a few students who wrote the exam. Although colleges had initially denied the accusations, the respective principals and Chief Exam superintendent were called to the university headquarters and asked for an explanation. The university was only ready to release the results of some of the students after the college authorities identified the culprits and handed over the details.
The details of students of SUT and MES colleges have not been given. The authorities claim that since the visuals lack clarity, the students couldn’t be identified. The rules state that the visuals should be sent to the university in a CD along with the examination answer sheets for verification. Typically, only selected visuals from the CD will be examined.
Foul play suspected in visuals also
The university feels that in many colleges, the cameras were not positioned in a way to get the visuals properly. They also allege that proper visuals are not included in the CD’s that the colleges sent along with the answer sheets. The governing council may take strong action on the subject.
Earlier, the university had taken action against students who cheated during exams using Bluetooth headset.
