Nedumangad: Three people were arrested in Panavoor in connection with the marriage of a 16-year-old rape victim. The accused, Al Ameer (23), who was in jail for raping the girl in 2021, married her when he was out on bail.

The team led by Nedumanagad CI Satheesh also nabbed the victim's father and Ansar, a religious priest, who facilitated the marriage.

According to police, the victim's family filed a complaint after Ameer fled to Malappuram with the girl a few months ago. However, the girl returned to her house, fearing action from police. Based on the family's complaint, police nabbed Ameer from his house in Nedumangad. He married the girl on January 18.

It was the locals who informed the police about the marriage. Police officials said that the accused married the girl believing it could end the case against him. Ameer is accused in several cases in the past.
