Maradu municipality alone cannot demolish flats: Chairperson
Kochi: The Maradu municipality will again send notice to the owners of flats which were constructed in the municipality violating the Coastal Regulation Zone norms. The move comes in the wake of Supreme Court on Friday setting September 20 as the deadline for demolishing the four flat complexes.
As it will incur huge financial burden the Maradu municipality demolish the flats on its own, said Chairperson T. H. Nadira while speaking to Mathrubhumi News.
The SC bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra also ordered that when the case is considered again on September 23, chief secretary should appear in person before the apex court. Earlier, the court had said that action will have to be taken against chief secretary for not implementing the SC order pronounced on May 8 to demolish the apartment complexes.
SC had also instructed to submit a report after demolition within one month. As the order was not implemented SC had registered a suo moto case and pronounced the verdict on Friday.
