Kochi: Ahead of the demolition of the controversial flats in Maradu on January 11, a mock drill will be held on January 10. The decision to conduct the mock drill was taken at a meeting presided by district collector S Suhas. The meeting was summoned to discuss the safety measures during the demolition.
At the same time, prohibitory orders will be clamped in the 200 metre radius of the flats during the demolition which is scheduled on January 11. Over 2000 people residing in 200 metre radius of the flats will be evacuated. Help of medical staff will be sought to shift bedridden patients from the neighbouring houses.
The district authority has also directed to take necessary action to provide emergency medical aid in the area.
Traffic regulation will be put in place near the premises of the flats before 30 minutes of the demolition. At the same time, traffic will be controlled on the National Highway during the demolition works.
The meeting also decided to allot safe places for people who arrive to watch the demolition.
There is no change in the timing of the demolition. On January 11, Alpha Serene and H2O Holy Faith apartments will be demolished. The other flats in Maradu will be demolished on January 12.
The Maradu complex comprises 356 flats in five buildings. The Supreme Court on September 6, ordered its demolition for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.
