Maradu flat dwellers begin shifting; Hunger strike of protesters to start on Sunday
Kochi: The inmates of Maradu flats have started evacuating. One family from Alpha Serene apartments and four families from Holy Faith apartments shifted on Saturday. All of them were staying for rent, said the flat owners.
‘Holy Faith H2O’ in Kundannoor, ‘Alpha Serene’ and ‘Jain Coral Rave’ in Nettoor and ‘Golden Kayaloram’ in Kannadikkadu are the flats to be demolished.
Meanwhile, the flat owners will start a hunger strike alleging that human rights are violated in connection with the flat demolition. The strike will start on Sunday at 9 am at Holy Faith H2O apartments. The owners of other flats also will reach there to take part in the strike organised by the Maradu Residence Protection Committee.
The demands raised by the protesters are to end human right violation against flat dwellers, restore water and power connection, ensure proper shelters before eviction, allot sufficient time for shifting peacefully and to provide initial compensation amount immediately. They have submitted a memorandum to the government in this regard.
