Maoist threat in Thiruvambady; high alert in polling booths
Thiruvambady: High alert has been issued in the polling booths here following a threat from the Maoists. Election Commission has issued instructions including deployment of special central force following the Intelligence report.
Few posters by Maoists had appeared in the Muthappanpuzha village urging to boycott the election.
According to information received by police, a 4-member gang carrying weapons had pasted the posters. They had arrived from the Kundanthode forest region crossing Kilikkallu.
Path for liberation is not elections but people’s war, read the posters by CPI (Maoist) Nadukani Area Committee. Also the posters heavily criticize the three political fronts.
Posters were pasted on the election csmpaign posters of LDF candidate here Linto Joseph. On seeing these, the public informed the police.
Thiruvambady CI Sudheer told Mathrubhumi that the Maoists arrived between 4 am and 5 am to paste the posters and that they had light breakfast from the nearby shop.
They also asked the public not to vote and extended support to fight against the authorities exploiting farmers.
Police, including Thunderbolt, investigated the place. Election officials also arrived at the venue.
