Kozhikode: The post mortem of the body of Maoist leader C P Jaleel, who was killed in an encounter with the police at Lakkidi in Wayanad has been postponed to Friday.
Even though the body was brought to Kozhikode medical college by 4 pm on Thursday, senior police officials informed that the postmortem has been postponed to Friday due to technical reasons.
Jaleel’s body was brought to Kozhikode under heavy security from police including Thunderbolt. As Jaleel’s family alleged that he was killed in a fake encounter, intelligence reported that there could be protests. The family had demanded the officials to hand over the body.
The police have beefed up security at police stations, including those in Malabar region following intelligence reports that Maoists may retaliate. Jaleel is the third Maoist leader to be killed in an encounter following the deaths of Kuppu Devaraj and Ajita in 2016. As such a Maoist retaliation is expected.
Earlier, the police had received information that Maoist leaders including Sundari, who lead armed attacks have entered into Kerala from Karnataka.
A group of 10 Maoists appeared at a private resort in Lakkidi on Wednesday night seeking money and food. The resort staff informed the police following which an encounter took place. Police said Jaleel was killed in the encounter. However, his brothers alleged that Jaleel was captured and shot dead. Police added that the other Maoist leaders managed to escape into the forest.
