Mangaluru: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday accused the media of acclimatizing with communalism while saying outwardly that they are secular in nature.
"Big corporates are controlling the media presently. As a result, media often takes up cudgels for such corporates. This trend should change,” Pinarayi said.
The Chief Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the office of Vartha Bharathi Kannada newspaper here.
"Even though all media have their own leanings, it should be for the well-being for the land and to protect the interests of the poor. The media has a huge influence in the society today. Hence, they should be ready to work against regressive forces," Pinarayi said.
"Only few people belong to the rich strata of society today. The media is arguing for the benefit of these people. However, there are some small media organizations which function impartially. They can do a lot for the benefit of the country," he added.
