Man who claimed to have killed nun was in Coimbatore: police
Kannur: The man, who claimed to have murdered Sr Amala at Lisieux Carmelite Convent in Pala, was in Coimbatore when the incident took place, say police sources.
The man, Nassar of Khadeera Manzil at Kumarakom in Kottayam, was taken into custody by Mahe police for creating nuisance in inebriated condition. During interrogation at the station, he told police that he had fled from Kottayam after murdering the nun.
However, police suspected that the man was suffering from mental illness as he gave contradicting statements at various stages of interrogation. Further investigations revealed that he was in Coimbatore when Sr Amala was found dead.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that another nun of the convent was assaulted two days ago. The 72-year-old sustained serious injuries on her head while on sleep.
Sr Julia, an inmate of the convent, made a disclosure that she had seen a stranger on the terrace of the convent on the day Sr Amala was found dead. She has informed the same to the Mother.
The same day the lock of the grill was found broken and the Mother told police that Rs 500 was stolen from the convent.
