Man thrashed to death in Wayanad: police arrest second wife, her family
Mananthavady: In connection the murder of Karipur native Abdul Latheef (45), Crime Branch nabbed four people including the mother of his second wife, a year after the incident. Abdul Latheef was killed on December 21, 2020, by his second wife Jasna and her family residing at Paralikkunnu Lakshamveedu colony in Wayanad.
Latheef, who had a wife and children at Malappuram, married Jasna in 2016. He often came to Paralikkunnu and stayed with her. Later, their relationship worsened and when he reached Jasna’s house on the night of the incident, Jasna and her brother Jamshan had assaulted him. They tied his hands and thrashed him to death.
Police reached the spot and took Latheef to hospital. But he could not be saved. Police found that the accused had destroyed the evidence by the time they came back for investigation. They arrested Jasna and Jamshan the next day after interrogation.
Later, the then district police chief G Poonkuzhali had handed over the case to the Crime Branch. The Crime Branch had taken the statements of many neighbours to find the involvement of other members in the family who have allegedly threatened them.
The four accused arrested now include Jasna’s mother Shajira (46), Shajira’s mother Khadeeja, Shajira’s brother Noushad (40) and his wife Maimoona (38). Jasna (30) and Jamshan (26) who were imprisoned are currently out on bail.
