Malappuram: Police seized gold worth Rs 58 lakh during an attempt to smuggle by evading the Customs at Karipur International Airport on Thursday. Kannur native Uday Prakash, 30, was arrested outside the airport with 957.2 grams of gold.

Uday Prakash swallowed gold in the form of capsules and attempted to smuggle them to Kerala via an Air India Express flight from Sharjah. Based on secret information, police took him into custody when he arrived outside the airport after the Customs security check. The capsules were found inside his stomach during a medical check-up.

According to police, a detailed report on the gold will soon be handed over to Customs for further investigation.
