Man sentenced to 23 years RI for sexually abusing minor girl in TVM

Neyyattinkara (Thiruvananthapuram): A fast track special (POCSO) court in Neyyattinkara sentenced a man to 23 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 40,000 for abducting a 13-year-old girl and sexually abusing her. The accused has been identified as Manoj (30), a native of Thirupuram, Neyyattinkara.

The incident pertaining to the case took place in 2015. The verdict was pronounced by Justice Kavitha Gangadharan.

As per reports, the accused, who pretended to be in love with the girl, sexually abused her several times at her house. In addition, Manoj also brought the girl to his house, with the aid of his friend Anoop, a native of Mamkoottam.

Reportedly, Anoop threatened the girl and he also has been slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 by the fast track court.

Following the incident, the girl ran away from her home and her father lodged a missing complaint with the police. The abuse came to light after police began probe into the missing case.

Soon after, the Poovar police registered a POCSO case and nabbed the accused. Special public prosecutor Ajith Thankayya and Gopika Gopal appeared for the prosecution at the court.
