Kozhikode: A couple was found charred to death in NIT quarters in Mukkam on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Ajay Kumar (56), a technician at the civil engineering department, and his wife Lini (50). Meanwhile, their eight-year-old son also suffered injuries and was shifted to the hospital for treatment.
The incident came to the attention of locals after they noticed smoke rising from their quarters.
According to police, Ajay Kumar suffocated his wife to death before setting himself ablaze with kerosine and intentionally leaking the gas from LPG cylinder. The motive behind the murder-suicide is still unclear.
