Mavelikara: The Mavelikara police on Sunday arrested Sajikumar (47) alias Manavalan Saji, a native of Pathanamthitta, for swindling lakhs from several women after making false promises to marry them.

Saji was arrested from a rented house in Nattakom following a complaint lodged by a native of Mavelikara on Friday. According to the police, he has swindled money from numerous women in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha.

Reportedly, he befriends families of women who give online matrimonial advertisements, swindles money and then flees the place.

The complainant got acquainted with Saji via a matrimonial institution centred in Kochi. Saji convinced the woman that he owns assets worth crores and needed Rs 2.5 lakhs to repair his car that had met with an accident.

Following this, the woman sent him money. However, she didn’t hear from him afterwards and decided to lodge the complaint.
