Thrissur: In an unfortunate incident, a man died from a head injury after hitting the glass door of a shop in Chavakkad on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Manathala native and retired Indian Navy officer Usman (84).
The incident took place at Ajfan Dates and Nuts store near Chavakkad beach road around 5.30 pm. Usman hastily walked into the store without noticing the glass door and fell on his back from the impact of the unexpected smash.
The store is located about two steps above the road. Apparently, Usman who lost balance upon the smash, fell over the steps and sustained severe head injury.
He was soon rushed to a hospital in Chavakkad and later shifted to Thrissur. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
Although a sticker with the name of the store was placed on the glass door, no such signs were seen on the glass walls.
Usman, who has served as a master chief petty officer in the Navy, is survived by wife Suhara and children Nazar, Sharafu, Haseena.
