Vellarikundu: In a bizarre incident, a man sought compensation for his chickens which were swallowed by a python last year. The incident took place amid a taluk-level adalat in Vellarikundu attended by Minister Ahammed Devarkovil, the district collector and sub collectors.

KV George, a native of Kasaragod, asserted before the adalat that all of his chickens were killed by a python and demanded compensation for his loss. He stated that when he opened his chicken coop on a morning in June 2022, all the chickens were gone and a snake was spotted inside.

Following this, forest officials arrived at his house, caught the snake and released it into the forest. Although he had approached department authorities citing the issue, apparently no action was taken.

Demanding compensation, George said, “If the snake belongs to the government, then the chickens are mine.”

Meanwhile, the minister and officials, who acknowledged the demand, assured to assess the situation and take necessary measures.
