Man, daughter pushed out of bus in Wayanad; wheels run over man's leg
Meenangadi: A man and his daughter were pushed out of a private bus near here in Wayanad district. While the girl escaped with minor injuries on her arm, the man sustained serious injuries after wheels of the bus ran over his leg.
The injured were identified as Joseph, a resident of Kariambadi and his daughter Neethu. The duo was heading to 54 Mile in a private bus heading to Kalpetta from Sultan Bathery around 3.30 on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Neethu said: “After the bus stopped, my father Joseph alighted from the bus first. By the time I reached the door, several school students gathered near the door to board the bus. To prevent the students from boarding the bus, the driver moved the bus even before I got down. I fell down on the ground and my legs narrowly avoided the wheel of the bus.”
“On seeing this, my father again boarded the bus. The conductor pushed my father’s arm from the door handle and he fell. His leg came under the rear wheels of the bus. He sustained multiple fractures. His knee cap was also crushed.”
The private bus stopped after running over the legs of Joseph. Local residents gathered around the bus and reportedly beat up the driver and conductor. Following this the driver and conductor ran away from the spot. The mob reportedly deflated the tyres of the bus.
Local residents and onlookers rushed Joseph and Neethu to a private hospital. Joseph, who is admitted to the Intensive care unit, will be shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College for further treatment.
Speaking to Mathrubhumi News over the incident, Wayanad MLA C. K. Sasidharan said it was a serious matter and added that legal proceedings will be initiated against the bus operators.
