Pathanamthitta: A man ended his life after writing a suicide note blaming CPM leaders for forcing him to relinquish the right of land owned by him. Babu, a Perunad native, was found hanging near the outskirts of his residence on Sunday.
His wife Kusama Kumari said that Babu committed suicide after Panchayat forced Babu to surrender 2.25 cents of land owned by him to construct a waiting shed. Years back, Babu donated a few lands to Panchayat for building a shed. However, Panchayat approached him again for 2.25 cents of land for rebuilding the shed.
Later, they took a surveyor and measured the land without his permission.
In the suicide note, Babu names Perunad Panchayath President and CPM district committee member PS Mohanan, CPM Local Secretary Robin and Grama Panchayat member Vishwam. Babu also claimed that he paid Rs 3 lakh to PS Mohanan and Rs 1 lakh to Robin and Vishwam. However, it is still unclear why he was asked to pay the money. The suicide note also mentioned CPM leaders forcing him to deposit a large sum of money in a Cooperative bank in the area.
The family alleged that these CPM leaders threatened them to donate land for constructing a waiting shed in the area.
" A few days back, panchayat members arrived at our house with an affidavit for surrendering the land. However, Babu asked them to leave and refused to sign the affidavit," said Babu's wife.
Meanwhile, the CPM leader denied allegations levelled against them.
