Man booked for embezzling crores in guise of cardamom export

Idukki: Kattappana police arrested a fraudster who was on the run after committing financial frauds in Qatar and India.The accused is identified as Kilimanur native Jineesh (39). The police nabbed him from Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

As per the case, the accused had embezzled Rs 4.5 crore from a Malayali expatriate in Qatar in 2015. Later, he returned to India and plotted similar frauds in other states here. After reaching Kerala, Jineesh deceived many vendors and misappropriated cardamon from them in the name of export.

Jineesh had obtained cardamom worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 70 lakh from large-scale vendors in Kumali and Kattappana respectively. A few other cases against Jineesh noted that he had swindled Rs 3.5 crore from an expatriate hailing from Ernakulam, Rs 1.75 crore from a Kottayam- Gandhinagar native, Rs 60 lakh from another expatriate based in Kozhikode and Rs 5 lakh from a West Bengal native.

He had also collected Rs 15 lakh from three youth in Thiruvananthapuram by offering job abroad.
