Udma: A youth was arrested by the police in Bekal, Kasaragod for attempting to rape a minor girl.
The incident took place when the accused, identified as Abdul Shakkir, 32, from Malappuram, entered the victim's house under the guise of receiving alms (sakkath) as part of Ramadan rituals. He then tried to molest the 13-year-old girl, but was caught by locals who rushed to the scene upon hearing her screams.
The accused has been handed over to the Bekal police.
