Parappanangadi: The Parappanangadi police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly swindling money after promising to marry a youth by pretending to be a divorced woman.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Adnan (31), a native of Perinthalmanna. The incident took place seven months back in Parappanangadi, Malappuram.

Reportedly, Adnan swindled around Rs 3 lakh from a youth, a native of Ariyallur, pretending to be a woman named Anakha. He convinced the youth that ‘her’ mother was ill and needed money for treatment.

Interestingly, the accused played two roles at the same time, pretending to be Anakha and also her ‘close friend’ Mohammad Adnan.

He had also sent a picture of a girl, which he downloaded from social media, in order to convince the complainant of ‘her’ identity.

However, the youth, who felt cheated, lodged a complaint with district police chief Sujith Das. Following which, the accused was nabbed by a team of policemen led by Parappanangadi station inspector KG Jinesh.
