Man arrested for sexually assaulting widow on marriage promise in EKM

Kochi: The Ernakulam Central Police on Sunday arrested a man for sexually assaulting a widow after promising to marry her. The accused has been identified as Nasheel (31), a native of Thalassery.

The action was taken on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman, a native of Ernakulam. According to the complainant, Nasheel, who resided in Aluva, befriended her through Facebook.

Following which, the accused assaulted her at various hotels in Ernakulam and swindled around Rs 2 lakh from her. Later, Nasheel began to avoid the complainant, who realised that she was cheated and lodged a complaint with the police.

Nasheel, who had been absconding, was nabbed by a team of police officers led by central police station inspector S Vijayashankar, with the aid of the cybercell.
