Man arrested for selling phone used by daughters to attend online classes to drink
Angamaly: A man has been arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act for snatching the mobile phone used by his children for online education, and selling it to buy liquor.
Angamaly native Sabu (41) was arrested by police on Tuesday. He was arrested from a toddy shop while drinking with the money he received from selling the mobile phone.
Sabu attacked his wife and children for the mobile phone the other day. He demanded that all three of his children should hand over their mobile phones to him. Following this, he started fighting with the family and began beating his wife and kids.
His youngest daughter ran to a neighboring house to escape the attack. That was when the neighbors came to know about the incident. They took Sabu's wife and children to the hospital.
Local residents had gifted Sabu's children a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000 as the three girls did well in their studies. Two of his daughters, one who just passed Plus Two and the other who passed Class 10, had secured A+ grade in all subjects. The youngest daughter, who studies in class 7, is also academically brilliant. Sabu, who is a drunkard, wanted the mobile phones to find money for drinking.
Sabu left the house soon after the incident and sold the phone on Tuesday morning itself. He was caught while drinking using the money he earned after selling the phone. Police said that Sabu was involved in arrack distillation and theft cases in the past. Sabu was remanded by the court.
