Kozhikode: The Nadakkavu Police on Sunday arrested a man, who allegedly pelted stones at singers KJ Yesudas and KS Chithra amid Malabar festival celebrations in Kozhikode beach 24 years back. The accused has been identified as NV Azeez (56), a native of Beypore.

The incident pertaining to the case took place on February 7, 1999 at 9.15 pm. Azeez was among the gang that had pelted stones at the singers during a music event at the area, said police.

As per reports, Azeez was nabbed from his residence in Malappuram on the basis of information provided by his neighbour. Following which, police intensified their probe in Malappuram.

The case had been investigated by then Nadakkavu CI K Sreenivasan. The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had issued an arrest warrant in the case as well.

Azeez, who was produced before the court, was later released on bail.

The accused was nabbed by a team of policemen, led by Nadakkavu inspector PK Jijeesh, including CPOs MV Sreekanth, C Hareesh Kumar, PK Baiju, PM Leneesh, among others.
