Man buys 400 pairs of shoes with defrauded money; arrrested


Pala: A man has been arrested for conning people by promising to provide home appliances and furniture in instalments. Benny (43), a native of Wayanad, was arrested for cheating Rs 15 lakh from different people at different locations within six months. He told police that the money from the scam was used to buy shoes and alcohol and for massage. Police found receipts and 400 pairs of shoes at the lodge where he was staying in Kottayam.

Within the jurisdiction of Pala police station, he had been taking advances from people offering to provide home appliances in instalments. He didn't deliver the products on time and behaved indecently when the customers called.

He collected up to Rs 2,000 as an advance. Most of his victims are women. He was being monitored by the cyber cell and was called to Pala by the women police. He was released from prison six months ago and he is accused in several cases.

A case has been registered against him at the Kannur Kelakam police station for making derogatory comments against former health minister KK Shailaja and also for insulting a woman judge over the phone in Kochi. Police said he also behaved indecently when the police call him from the station.
